Catherine Barba

Founder, PEPS Lab

Catherine Barba is a French entrepreneur based in NYC since 2015, when she launched the PEPS Lab, a Retail Innovation Center that discovers the most promising retail omnichannel practices, from major retailers to fashion brands. A serial entrepreneur and digital pioneer in Europe, Barba has founded or co-founded several digital businesses in France. Her consulting firm, Malinea, which provides coaching and training to managers in digital, mobile and e-commerce companies, was acquired in 2012 by the founders of VENTE-PRIVEE.com, one of Frances first Unicorns. Her previous company Cashstore, a cash-back website partnering with over 1,200 e-commerce merchants, was acquired by PLEBICOM Group in 2010.

A trusted advisor and mentor, Barba is one of the few female Business Angels, and serves on the board of several successful tech start-ups, including Leetchi, MangoPay, Soshape, and Retency, among others.  She is also the author of several books about the future of retail, including “Stores are not dead”. As a thought leader in digital entrepreneurship, Barba had over 200 speaking engagements in 2015 alone.

In 2015 Barba was named one of 50 most influential figures in Europe’s digital economy and in 2014 one of the three most influential female figures in France.

Sam Baron currently works as a designer for brands such as Hennessy, Vista Alegre or La Redoute along the creative direction of the design area of Fabrica, the Benetton international communication research center.

Sam Baron’s perennial re-readings and reinterpretations of traditional know-hows (handcraft or industrial) shrewdly interrogate on the utility of today’s material productions and the very existence of new objects.

By anchoring his creations in an artistic and functional inquiry, without omitting cultural and historical narrations, Sam Baron places his outlook in our everyday life and its contemporaneity.

Nicolas Beauchesne

Co-Founder and Managing Director, 55 | fifty-five

With more than 15 years of extensive experience in the Internet sector, Nicolas has become an expert at understanding how brands can successfully engage in the digital space, while creating new business streams and optimizing customer experience.

Nicolas started at Vivendi Universal as the leader of MP3.com’s French division after graduating from Paris Graduate School of Management (ESCP). He then joined Google in Paris in 2005, where he developed the AdWords program for entertainment, media and branding verticals across EMEA, before becoming Head of Media Solutions to coordinate the launch of YouTube and Display.

In 2010, Nicolas and the former Google EMEA management team co-founded fifty-five, a data analytics and marketing company that assists its clients in the optimization of their digital marketing strategies. The company, which now has more than 150 employees and offices in Paris, London, and Hong Kong, specializes in optimizing and activating data to help brands optimize engagement. Nicolas is in charge of developing innovative data projects for Luxury and Premium brands. In 2015, fifty-five was recognized as one of Deloitte’s Technology Fast 500, which provides a ranking of the fastest growing technology companies in the EMEA region.

Recently acquired by You & Mr Jones, the world’s first Brandtech group, fifty-five is currently opening its first North American office in NYC.

Alain Bernard

President and Chief Executive Officer, Van Cleef & Arpels Americas

Alain Bernard is the President and CEO of Van Cleef & Arpels Americas and covers the House’s activities in both North and South America, leading the development of awareness, business and teams in the region. In 2010, he joined Van Cleef & Arpels as President and CEO for the Japan zone and as a member of the Executive Committee. In this position, he guided a strong reshaping of activity, and oversaw a sharp rise of awareness and sales in this part of the world.

Mr. Bernard has strong roots at the Richemont Group, having joined Cartier in 1998 in Paris as Organization Project Manager; he was then appointed Global Internet Director in 2000, before moving to Singapore in 2002 as Managing Director for Cartier South-East Asia. In 2005, he was appointed Global Customer Service Director for Cartier, in charge of the worldwide development of service in boutiques, after-sales service, CRM and e-commerce. Mr. Bernard graduated from Ecole Centrale Paris and started his career in the consulting field, at Ernst & Young in Paris, where he gained experience in the consumer goods industry.

Elsa Berry

Managing Director and Founder, Vendôme Global Partners; President, French-American Chamber of Commerce

Elsa Berry is the Founder of Vendôme Global Partners, a New York-based Mergers & Acquisitions advisory firm, specialized in the Luxury Industry on a global basis. Vendôme Global Partners is focused on strategic transactions primarily in the Watch, Jewelry, Fashion, Accessories and Beauty sectors. Prior to establishing Vendôme Global Partners, Ms. Berry was Head of BNP Paribas Corporate Finance North America for twenty years. Ms. Berry joined BNP in 1989, following BNP’s acquisition of Vendôme & Company, the New York, Paris and Stuttgart-based Mergers & Acquisitions group, that Ms Berry co-founded in 1982.

Ms. Berry is the President of the Board of the French-American Chamber of Commerce, a board member of the European-American Chamber of Commerce, and a Foreign Trade Advisor of France. She is a founding member of the HEC Business School Alumni Group in New York and received from HEC Paris the Woman-of-the-Year Achievement Award, Prix Trajectoire au Féminin in 2008. Ms. Berry was the Chair of the Board of Trustees of the Lycée Français de New York for ten years until 2009. She received from France in 2003 the distinguished award of Knight in the Order of National Merit and, in 2008, the Knight in the Order of the Legion of Honor from the President of France Nicolas Sarkozy.

A U.S. citizen, Ms. Berry was raised in France, received a Bachelor of Economics from the Université Paris X (Nanterre) and an M.B.A. from HEC Paris. She is an avid tennis player and skier, and mother of two sons.

Alex Bolen

Chief Executive Officer, Oscar de la Renta, LLC.

Alex Bolen is the Chief Executive Officer of Oscar de la Renta, LLC., an international luxury goods firm headquartered in New York City. Bolen, who was named CEO in July 2004 after serving as the company’s Director of Corporate Development, joined Oscar de la Renta in January 2003 after a 14-year career on Wall Street focused on leveraged finance, most recently at Bear Stearns & Co., where he was Managing Director in the Mezzanine Capital Group.

Alex graduated from Brown University in 1990 with a BA in Russian Studies, magna cum laude. He and his wife, Eliza, who serves as Oscar de la Renta’s Executive Vice President, are the proud parents of three boys.

Senior Lecturer of Business Administration, Harvard Business School

Pauline Brown is a Professor at Harvard Business School. She previously was the Chairman of the North American arm of LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton, where she provided regional leadership for about 70 luxury brands in 5 sectors, including fashion & leather goods, perfumes & cosmetics, watches & jewelry, wines & spirits, and selective retailing.

Prior to LVMH, she was a partner at the global private equity firm, The Carlyle Group, where she specialized in the Consumer and Retail Sectors. Pauline began her career at Bain & Co.

Burak Cakmak

Dean of Fashion, Parsons School of Design at the New School

Burak Cakmak has extensive experience in forging strong partnerships as a business strategist and sustainability expert for some of the largest, most prestigious retail companies and luxury brands in the world. With his expertise in the field of sustainable design, he is focused on guiding the academic programs at Parsons School of Design into a new era, where an emphasis on socially conscious and transformational design formulates the educational approach and training of the next generation of creators.

Prior to joining Parsons, Cakmak worked at Swarovski Group as the company’s first Vice President of Corporate Responsibility, where he established global programs fostering environmental stewardship. Cakmak previously acted as General Manager of MADE-BY Benelux in the Netherlands, advancing fashion sustainability practices for brands such as H&M, Tommy Hilfiger, Acne, Primark, Ted Baker, and G-Star, among others. Prior to that, Cakmak spearheaded innovation driven sustainability strategies as the first Director of Corporate Sustainability for Kering’s luxury brands, including Gucci, Bottega Veneta, Yves Saint Laurent, Alexander McQueen, Sergio Rossi, Balenciaga, Stella McCartney, and Boucheron. His career in the fashion industry began at Gap Inc., where he served as the Senior Manager of Social Responsibility in their San Francisco and London offices for 8 years.

François Chateau

Partner, Dentons

François Chateau is a partner in Dentons’ New York office, where he works closely with the Firm’s global managing partner and Global Board on strategic development and management. He was previously global vice chairman of Dentons and chairman of the global board of legacy firm Salans, which he helped lead through the combination that created Dentons.

François is engaged in the representation of French and other European companies in the US, as well as US companies investing in Europe in general and France in particular. He primarily represents companies and individuals in the fashion, beauty and luxury goods industries and is the Global Co-Chair of this practice. He is also head of Dentons’ French desk, a special cross-border practice group composed of bilingual, French-speaking lawyers based in New York. As a successful entrepreneur, François has extensive experience in contract negotiations, intellectual property issues, international tax planning, joint ventures, licensing and distributions agreements, venture capital and venture development. In addition to such transnational work, Mr. Chateau acts as an adviser to wealthy multinational families and individuals in their business affairs and as trustee for family trusts.

François is a dual French and US citizen. He is very active in the French-American community in the US and is a Chevalier de l’Ordre National du Mérite (France).

Frederic Cumenal

Chief Executive Officer, Tiffany & Co.

Frederic Cumenal is chief executive officer of Tiffany & Co., the internationally renowned jeweler and premier luxury brand. Mr. Cumenal assumed this position in April 2015.

Mr. Cumenal joined Tiffany in 2011 as executive vice president. He was named president of Tiffany & Co. in 2013 and appointed to the Tiffany & Co. board of directors. Under his leadership, the company has continued to expand globally, with new stores in Asia and Europe, including the 2014 opening of a Tiffany & Co. store on the avenue des Champs-Elysées in Paris. In addition, he guided the development of new collections, including Tiffany T and a new timepiece that have expanded the brand’s reach and underscore Tiffany’s reputation for style and tradition of excellence.

In 2015, Mr. Cumenal was elected to the Board of Trustees of the Whitney Museum of American Art.

Prior to joining Tiffany in 2011, Mr. Cumenal held senior leadership positions at LVMH Group, most recently as president and chief executive officer of Moët & Chandon.

Before joining LVMH in 1995, he served in various general management and marketing capacities for Procter & Gamble, the Ferruzzi Group and Mars.

Mr. Cumenal is a graduate of Institut d’Etudes Politiques, Ecole Superieure des Sciences Economiques et Commerciales (Essec) and the Harvard Business School.

Healey Cypher

Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer, OAK

Healey Cypher (yes, that’s his real name) is the co-founder and CEO of OAK. His passion is to elegantly infuse technology into physical retail. And along-side his amazing team at OAK, they are off to a good start with the recent launch of the Oak Interactive Fitting Room with Polo Ralph Lauren. OAK is headquartered in San Francisco, CA and has a showroom/office/lab on the Lower East Side of Manhattan.

Before founding Oak, Healey founded and led the Retail Innovation team for eBay, Inc where his team launched the Rebecca Minkoff Connected Stores, Kate Spade Saturday WindowShops, and projects with Nordstrom, TOMS, Sony, Westfield, and the Simon Property Group.

Healey has had a pretty good run so far in retail – he was recently selected as Women Wear Daily’s “Ten of Tomorrow” and hosted the Next Generation of Retail Stores session at SXSW Interactive in both 2014 and 2015. He regularly speaks at NRF & shop.org and has been interviewed by top-tier media including CNN, Fast Company, the New York Times, Forbes, WWD, TechCrunch, The Wall Street Journal, VentureBeat, Entrepreneur, TIME Magazine, CBS, Fox, and more. (Sorry, that last sentence was kind of ridiculous.) At age 29 he was selected as “40 under 40” by the Silicon Valley Business Journal, and at age 30 was awarded “40 under 40” by design:retail magazine.

Prior to his tenure at eBay and Milo, Healey worked as a consultant in New York City. He is an alumnus of the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania and from Nebraska, but spent the majority of his early life in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. #wut

General Manager Americas, Make Up For Ever

Laure joined Make Up For Ever, a division of LVMH Group, as General Manager for the Americas in March 2014.

Prior to Make Up For Ever, Laure held marketing and merchandising positions across retail, wholesale and digital, working for major Fashion and Beauty brands in the US and Europe. Laure was Divisional Chief Executive Officer at Vente-Privee USA Brands. There, she drew from her experience at Marc Jacobs where she was in charge of global licensing. Pre-2008, Laure worked as General Manager Beauty for Banana Republic, served as the Director of Corporate Strategy for Gap Inc, and held CPG marketing positions for Clinique Cosmetics, Yves Saint Laurent Parfums and Procter and Gamble.

Laure is a graduate of ESSEC – France.

Laurent Droin

Managing Director and Head of Consumer Advisory Americas, BNP Paribas

Laurent Droin is the Head of Consumer Advisory North America at BNP Paribas. His team, together with BNP Paribas’s global network, is particularly active in the luxury HPC and Apparel spaces, providing a bridge between large investors and fast-growing brands. BNP Paribas’s consumer franchise is focused on connecting the dots between the trends on the ground among emerging brands, retailers, private equity, and large corporates to advise clients as they assess their strategic opportunities in today’s dynamic marketplace. Most recently, the team successfully advised Estée Lauder on its acquisitions of prestige fragrance brands Le Labo and Editions de Parfums Frédéric Malle and their investment in Korean beauty brand Dr. Jart. Mr. Droin joined BNP Paribas in 2005 after spending seven years with Danone focused on strategy and M&A. His career has seen him cross the globe from France to Brazil, Argentina, and Russia before landing in the United States.

A French citizen, Mr. Droin received a Master in Management from ESCP. When not in the office or on the road, Mr. Droin can be found producing music, indulging in his passion for contemporary art and design, or most likely playing soccer with his three sons.

Global Officer of Luxury and Lifestyle Brands, Marriott International, Inc.

Tina Edmundson is global officer of Luxury and Lifestyle Brands for Marriott International, Inc. including The Ritz-Carlton, BVLGARI Hotels & Resorts, EDITION Hotels, JW Marriott Hotels & Resorts, AC Hotels by Marriott, Moxy, Renaissance Hotels, and Autograph Collection Hotels. Her leadership includes defining and executing innovative and change-making global brand and operations strategies for the company’s luxury/lifestyle portfolio including more than 550 hotels across all brands in 38 countries.

As part of her responsibilities, Tina also plays an important role in the future development of the company’s luxury/lifestyle brands around the world, working closely with the company’s global development team to advance the creativity and innovation of Marriott International’s Luxury and Lifestyle Brands for next generation audiences. Additionally, she plays a critical role in defining global sales and marketing strategies for all brands, helping ensure that each is culturally relevant and resonates well with the mindset of their guests around the world in the luxury/lifestyle category.

Tina served in numerous leadership roles with Starwood Hotels & Resorts before joining Marriott International, including senior vice president of brand operations for Starwood’s Luxury Division where she established the W brand as a leader in the “lifestyle” lodging category. She also led the repositioning of the St. Regis brand in the luxury segment.

Tina is a graduate of the University of Bombay, India, and earned her MBA in Hotel & Restaurant Administration from the Conrad N. Hilton School at the University of Houston. She currently resides outside of Washington, D.C. with her husband and daughter.

Joseph Ferrara

Co-Founder and Co-CEO, Resonance Companies, Professor, NYU Stern

In 2015 Joseph co-founded Resonance as a venture operating company investing in creator-driven brands.  Resonance invests in brands with a demonstrated connection to customers, making relevant product that is at the core of that relationship.  All investments are premised on delivering the technology, supply-chain, and operational infrastructure needed for brands to be successful today.  As a seasoned supply-chain operator, Joseph serves as CEO of the largest high-end women’s tailoring facility in the USA.  In 2006 Joseph completed a successful exit of one of the most prestigious private label operations in the western hemisphere, which at the time had over 1,500 employees.   Joseph is a major investor and board member for several companies including Body Labs, New York Angels, RunThrough, and Tommy John among others.  Joseph serves on the faculty at NYU Stern, teaching among the most popular MBA courses on campus.  As an advisor to the CFDA Fashion Incubator, Joseph continues to support professional development and educational initiatives for emerging designers in the fashion and luxury space.

Ron Frasch joined Castanea Partners as an operating partner in 2014 to focus on luxury apparel and accessories, and aspirational branded consumer products. Prior to joining Castanea, Ron was President and Chief Merchandising Officer at Saks Fifth Avenue until the sale of the company to Hudson’s Bay Co. in 2013.

Previously, Ron was CEO and President at Bergdorf Goodman. He also held senior executive positions at GFT USA and Escada USA as President, and President and CEO, respectively, and Neiman Marcus where he was Senior Vice President and General Merchandise Manager for ready-to-wear, accessories, and cosmetics. He serves on Crocs, Inc. Board of Directors’ audit and governance committee.

Trent Fraser

Vice President Dom Pérignon, LVMH Wines & Spirits

Originally growing up in Australia’s premier wine growing region Adelaide, Trent has always held a dedicated passion for wine and the industry. He completed his Business Degree at the University of South Australia and started his career with the Penfolds Wines/Southcorp Group. He moved to the United States more than 14 years ago, managing a portfolio of 30 wineries from all over the world including California, Italy, New Zealand, South Africa, Chile, and of course, Australia. Trent joined LVMH in 2008 and since then has held a number of positions within its Moët Hennessy division including commercial and strategic roles such as Region Marketing at Moët & Chandon and Dom Pérignon. He has been the vice president of Dom Pérignon for the last five years.

Trent lives in New York City and is a food and wine fanatic, who is also passionate about travel and the great outdoors.

Marie Gulin-Merle

Chief Marketing Officer, L'Oréal USA

A L’Oréal veteran with over 15 years of strategic digital and integrated communications experience, Marie Gulin-Merle was appointed Chief Marketing Officer at L’Oréal USA in 2014. Reporting directly to L’Oréal USA CEO, Frédéric Rozé, Ms. Gulin-Merle is responsible for driving new marketing models, innovations and strategic partnerships across the company’s portfolio of more than 30 iconic brands. From content creation and distribution to enhancing consumer engagement through data and cross-platform analytics, Ms. Gulin-Merle is passionate about developing the creative platforms and tools needed to place the consumer at the center of L’Oreal USA’s business.

Prior to her current role, Marie Gulin-Merle worked in various integrated marketing and communications positions with L’Oreal and spent almost 10 years building communications and digital strategies for L’Oreal Paris. Most recently she served as Global Head of Integrated Marketing Communications at the brand’s headquarters in Paris where she was responsible for brand marketing, content development, digital platforms and sponsorships across 60 countries in 8 strategic regions. She successfully reinvented integrated communications for L’Oréal Paris and through her leadership, developed a new content strategy and elevated the profile of the brand through key events and global initiatives including the Cannes Film Festival and the launch of the Makeup Genius app.

Ms. Gulin-Merle received a degree in Marketing from HEC Paris and a degree in Political Science from Sciences-Po Bordeaux and currently resides in New York City.

Executive Vice President, Strategy and New Business Development, The Estée Lauder Companiess

Peter Jueptner was appointed to the position of Senior Vice President, Strategy and New Business Development of The Estée Lauder Companies on January 5, 2009. In this role, he works closely with the CEO, CFO and the entire Executive Management team to develop, shape, communicate and implement Estée Lauder’s Global strategy. Peter leads all Merger and Acquisitions as well as Licensing and Alliance activities for The Estée Lauder Companies worldwide. He oversees Transformational Initiatives, including the Organizational Design evolution of the corporation. He is a member of the Investment Development Committee (IDC), the Estee Lauder Leadership Team (ELT) and the Project Management Team (PMT). In 2014, Peter was promoted to the position of Executive Vice President, Strategy and New Business Development.

Prior to joining The Estée Lauder Companies, Peter served as Senior Vice President, Strategy and Mergers Acquisitions at Philip Morris International. Previous to his work at Philip Morris, he held executive roles at A&P, a North American grocery retailer, and Campbell Soup Company. He started his career with the Boston Consulting Group.

Peter was born in Germany and attended the University in Karlsruhe receiving an undergraduate degree in Information Technology and Industrial Engineering. He also worked as an industrial engineer at Siemens while pursuing his degree. Peter received his MBA, in marketing and finance, in the United States from Vanderbilt University.

He has three children and lives in New York City.
